After recent events in this country, I haven’t been able to stop questioning almost everything I know. Do you ever wonder why school doesn’t teach us very real situations we need to know to prepare for life? Like how to do taxes, anything about the stock market, how a Roth IRA can be just as beneficial as a 401k, or how the political system works. We know what we were taught which is almost nothing to begin with, and now even less for new generations. 2,035 books have been banned in the US just this year. Curious as to what those books include? Almost anything about the LGBTQIA+ community and books involving another race other than Caucasian which is funny because this wasn’t originally our country to ban books in from the start. Kids are learning less than we did. Where is the freedom of speech for writers who say something that the country should hear? Silenced. Do you ever wonder why churches don’t teach about the books removed from the Bible? Or wonder why people need a Master’s in Hebrew, Greek, or Aramaic to truly know what the original Bible says? I guess after living in the Bible belt for so long, watching “Christians” choose what they do or don’t want to believe and follow has finally pissed me off enough to talk about it. Over 30,000 changes have been made to the original Bible. Ever wonder what man has the power to change the word of God? If you truly believed in God, His teachings, or His followers, you’d be less likely to obey words rewritten by man and more likely to sit with prostitutes, thieves, and robbers. But, here America is. “More judgmental, racist, and homophobic than ever.” But is it? It’s always been this way, we just weren’t preview to it because we didn’t have the news of the world in the palm of our hands. It’s America. The reason you see Jesus as a white man in every movie made. The reason we went from having the first African American President ever to having BLM protests in the next term. The reason homosexuals are now more present than ever when in reality it is just that we can now come out and not worry about being killed or raped in the streets. The thing that truly aggravates me, infuriates me, and confuses me, is after so many years of us being taught to hate school, we correlate it with hating knowledge and education. Truth is, there is nothing that we could not find out from the internet, our smart phones, books sitting in libraries down the street. But instead, we spend our lives distracted by social media, the newest clothing trend, how much is in our accounts, or where we’ll be instead of where we are and what we could know in the present. I guess my point of all of this, is I have officially hit a point where none of it seems to matter. Do you want to know what most people say on their deathbeds? “I wish I would’ve spent less time at work. I wish I would’ve traveled more. I wish I would’ve focused more on relationships in my life.” So why do none of us listen? At the end of the day, we all end up six feet under or in a ceramic vase on some fireplace. Do you think it’s going to matter what car you drove? Or who the President was when you were twenty? Or how much of your money was passed down to someone who didn’t even work for it? The answer is no. So, decide what YOU want to do with your life and do it. Ignore the societal agenda of high school, college, career, marriage, house, kids, retire. Or don’t. Do what you want to do regardless of what others think or believe. They’re not having sex with your partner. They’re not working your job. They’re not living in your home or van or cardboard box. They’re not the ones looking back on your life and regretting it or not. That’s all you. If you want to make an impact on this world, do it. If you want to continue your life distracted, do it. But as much as your life is yours, that person you hate because of their social class, sexual identity, or skin color, that person has their life too and they deserve to live their life how they choose.
